Douglas S. Holsclaw Family Endowed Chair in Genetics

The Douglas S. Holsclaw Family Endowed Chair in Genetics has enabled the Steele Center to attract and support the finest pediatric genetic researchers. The chair has allowed us to get several important initiatives started in the area of medical and molecular genetics.

The Douglas S. Holsclaw Family Endowed Chair in Genetics is currently held by Robert Erickson, MD, Professor of Pediatrics. Dr. Erickson was recruited from Michigan and is the first mammalian molecular geneticist at The University of Arizona. His research on developmental genetics, both in sex determniation and of genes involved in facial clefting continues here.

In 1985, Douglas Holsclaw, Sr., and his family funded the Douglas S. Holsclaw Family Endowed Chair in Genetics. Douglas Holsclaw, Sr., was a UA alumnus, and an Arizona State Senator. Senator Holsclaw was insturmental in establishing the UA College of Medicine, and he and his wife, Alice, were on the founding board of the Steele Center.
