angel charity

Angel Charity for Children, Inc. was founded in 1983 with the mission of raising funds for children's causes in Pima County. Since then, the Angels have raised more than $14 million for many worthwhile organizations and helped improve life for thousands of children in Southern Arizona.

The Steele Children's Research Center was fortunate to have been chosen as their 1990 beneficiary. The result of their efforts is the fourth floor of our research tower. Bearing the name Angel Charity for Children-Wings for Genetic Research, this suite of six laboratories houses research on genetically inherited diseases.

In 2001, Angel Charity again selected the Steele Center as a beneficiary and raised $750,000 to renovate 3,300 square feet of outdated and underutilized laboratory space to house a comprehensive program to fight diabetes, the most prevalent chronic disease of childhood.

The new Angel Wing for Children with Diabetes provides specialized patient care for children currently suffering from diabetes. Physician/scientists pursue both basic science research and clinical research to seek better treatments and an eventual cure for diabetes, and offer training for medical students, pediatric residents, endocrine/diabetes fellows, PhD students, and associated health care professionals.

The Angel Wing for Children with Diabetes is the only place in Arizona for children with diabetes that integrates patient care, research and training.
