To Teach To Heal To Discover

the W.M. Keck foundation

In 2001, the W.M. Keck Foundation, generously donated $1.1 million dollars to support the development of a bio-imaging core facility at the Steele Center. This facility enables Steele Center researchers to study the molecular genetics of growth and differentiation.

Funds have been used to puchase an optical PCR instrument, allowing researchers to perform precise quntitation of gene expression levels. In addition, Keck funds were used to purchase a Ciphergen SELDI-based protein discovery system, which has been optimized by the cardiac valve formation research team.
